Reinhold Messner and his mountains
he illustrious mountaineer Reinhold Messner built five museums in South Tyrol, known as Messner Mountain Museum (MMM). Each is dedicated to a different mountain theme such as different mountain regions or mountain peoples and their lifestyles.
Bolzano’s mighty Sigmundskron Castle is the beating heart of the Messner Mountain Museum. The flagship museum, a contemporary steel-and-glass structure integrated into the existing medieval buildings, demonstrates the magic of the mountains in a masterful way.
